Osun: OOMPA Trains Secondary School Students On Digital Media, Doles Out Teaching Materials
The Osun Online Media Practitioners Association on Thursday, January 27th, organized a training and debate for students of Ansar-un-deen Grammar School, Ilobu, in Irepodun Local Government Area of Osun state.
The program, which was the association’s second edition, was aimed at encouraging brilliant students at the school and to also ensure that students are familiar with digital technology and to use it for improvement of their health and education.
As part of the association efforts to make impact in the community. The debate topic was “Digital Media As A Blessing Or A Curse” to education development in Nigeria.
Students were drawn from whole senior class, engaged in the vocal combats
Amidst the debate, a vibrant student shed more light on the topic.
She said: “Ever before the advent of technology, most especially in the area of education. There had been a good system of passing information to the students, but with the emergence of digital media, dissemination of information across to the student became more efficient and effective irrespective of distance or location”
“Digital media can be created, heard, digested, evaluated, transmitted, distributed and preserved on electronic digital device.
After the contest, winners were presented with prizes while the school also got teaching materials. This is done as part of the association movement and social responsibility to create opportunity for students and to enlighten them more on the use of the media.
Mr. Jare Tiamiyu, association chairman, in his address said that the association is interested in the academic performance of Osun students and vowed to continue organizing such event as part of its community and social responsibility.
“There is no way even if you bagged a degree, PHD or still a student. You will still have a need to consult your dictionary that is why we give them this dictionary, the latest edition and also some of the English materials in English textbook that we know including the teaching aids we feel to have a contribution to their learning and the forthcoming examination,” Jare said
Vice principal of the school, Mrs. Olaniyan Adebisi, appreciated the association for their gesture.
“On behalf of the school management, the principal, the staffs, and the students. We say a big, thank you to the online Media Practitioner Association of Osun state branch. We thank you for your care, educational tips and other good things that you have given to our students today.”
“We thank you for improving them educationally. We appreciate you for the gifts, given to them. And we say a big, thank you. We will pray that the group will continue to move higher, in Jesus’ name,” Olaniyan Adebisi said.
Some of the participants of the program who benefited from the prizes speak with Journalists.
They expressed their happiness and hailed Osun online media practitioners Association for the kind gesture.
“We really appreciate the gifts that are given to us by the Osun online Media Practitioners Association, and I hope that this will encourage other students to focus and keep it up on their education.
“I’m using this time to appreciate Osun online media practitioners Association. Thanks for the gift that have been presented to us. This will give us enough courage to put more efforts on our educational activities,” Students narrated.
