[Breaking] Osogbo Food Investment Scandal: Alleged Global Food Initiative Owner Reportedly Arrested In Enugu

The alleged owner of Global Food Initiative, a food outlet accused of operating a controversial investment scheme that left hundreds of residents of Osogbo worried about their money, has reportedly been arrested in Enugu State.

The suspect was said to have been arrested at an eatery in Enugu while he was about to eat, following efforts by the owner of the complex where the outlet operated, Engr. Kayode, popularly known as Engr. Kay, to locate him.

He was reportedly arrested yesterday Thursday, October 15, 2026.

CityMirrorNews gathered that Engr. Kay had travelled to Enugu alongside his wife in search of the suspect following the controversy surrounding the operations of the food outlet.

The search reportedly yielded results when Engr. Kay and his wife visited a restaurant, where his wife allegedly sighted the suspect and alerted the police.

Police operatives were subsequently invited to the restaurant and reportedly arrested the man.

Sources said the suspect allegedly confirmed to the police that Engr. Kay was indeed his landlord when questioned about their relationship.

He was thereafter taken to a police station in Enugu, where he was reportedly asked to make a statement regarding the allegations against him.

As of the time of filing this report, details of the suspect’s statement and the police’s position on the case had yet to be independently confirmed.

The development comes amid growing concerns over the activities of Global Food Initiative, which reportedly began operations in early August around the Odi-Olowo area of Osogbo, Osun State.

The outlet allegedly attracted customers by offering food items at prices said to be significantly lower than prevailing market rates, with participants required to pay in advance for products they would collect at a later date.

The food items reportedly included 50-kilogramme bags of rice and vegetable oil in different quantities, while payments made by participants allegedly ranged from N50,000 to as much as N50 million.

The scheme reportedly came under intense scrutiny after an anchor of a radio programme in Osun State described it as alleged fraudulent during a live broadcast and warned residents against participating.

The warning allegedly triggered panic among customers, many of whom rushed to the outlet to ascertain the status of their payments, only to find the premises locked.

More than 200 people reportedly gathered at the location, with several expressing fears over the fate of their money.

One trader was said to have paid N50 million for rice, while another participant, identified as Kafayat, reportedly claimed to have paid N1 million.

Other customers displayed receipts showing payments ranging from N50,000 to N250,000 and above as they demanded explanations over the transactions.

The reported arrest in Enugu is expected to draw further attention to the controversy, as affected customers await clarification on the whereabouts of their funds and the next steps by the relevant authorities.

However, the allegations against the suspect remain subject to investigation, and his arrest does not in itself establish criminal guilt.
