The Olubosin of Ifetedo, Oba Akinola Oyetade Akinrera, has reportedly joined his ancestors.
The monarch, who ruled Ifetedo in Ife South Local Government Area of Osun State, was said to have died on Friday.
Oba Akinrera ascended the throne in 2018 after a career that spanned the teaching profession, the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
However, as of the time of filing this report, the palace had yet to issue an official statement confirming the monarch’s death.
Despite the absence of an official confirmation, condolence messages had begun to circulate on social media following reports of his death.
Before ascending the throne, Oba Akinrera worked with the NNPC, which he joined in 1992. He had earlier served as a teacher before joining the Nigeria Police Force in 1988.
He attended CAC Primary School, Ipetumodu, before proceeding to Ifetedo Grammar School for his secondary education.
The monarch later attended the Oyo State College of Education, which subsequently became the Osun State College of Education, Ilesa, and is now the University of Ilesa.
In 1988, he joined the Nigeria Police Force, where he served until 1992 before moving to the NNPC in Lagos.
While working with the NNPC, he furthered his education and obtained a Diploma in Law from Lagos State University, Ojo, in 1993.
He later gained admission to the University of Lagos in 1997 to study Law and graduated in 2004.
His reported death comes amid growing expressions of grief from residents and sympathisers of Ifetedo, who have taken to social media to mourn the monarch.
Further details surrounding his reported death, including an official confirmation from the palace and arrangements for his burial, were not immediately available as of the time of filing this report.
