Emir’s Murder: Osun Police Declare Alowonle, Sibi Wanted, Arrest Six Suspects
The Osun State Police Command has declared former state Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Nurudeen Alowonle, popularly known as Ola Mummy, and an Ile-Ife-based transport union leader, Olayemi Ojo, aka Sibi, wanted over the killing of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir, an aide to Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, disclosed this on Monday while parading six suspects arrested in connection with the killing at the command headquarters in Osogbo.
Oyeyemi was killed on September 13, 2026, after armed men reportedly invaded the Mayfair Garage, an NURTW park in Ile-Ife, and opened fire.
Zungura said the police had recorded significant breakthroughs in the investigation, adding that efforts were underway to arrest Alowonle, Ojo and other suspects still at large.
“Alowonle and Sibi have been declared wanted. The command is intensifying efforts to apprehend Nurudeen Alowonle, Adeyemi Ojo, aka Sibi, and other suspects currently at large who are alleged to have participated in the heinous crime,” he said.
The commissioner explained that the command received a distress call on the day of the incident reporting that armed men had stormed Mayfair Garage and fired sporadically, leading to Oyeyemi’s death.
He added that a fatal motor accident was also reported at the Energy Filling Station along the Ile-Ife-Ibadan Road on the same day.
According to him, he subsequently directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case and conduct a comprehensive investigation.
Zungura said the homicide section, working with the assistance of the Amotekun Corps commandant, arrested four suspects allegedly connected with the incident.
The suspects, identified as Amotekun operatives attached to Alowonle, are Tijani Ismail, Akinsola Ekundayo, Sijuade Moruf Oyinlola and Ayeni Adegbola Olalekan.
The police chief further disclosed that investigators arrested Hammed Olalekan Dauda, popularly known as Jagaban, a NURTW official and secretary of Aregbe Motor Park, over his alleged involvement in the crime.
He said Dauda was allegedly found with a cut-to-size firearm and reportedly told investigators during interrogation that the weapon had been given to him by Alowonle.
Another suspect, Waliu Adejare, popularly known as Jay Jay, was also arrested. Adejare was identified as the person in charge of Aregbe Motor Park in Osogbo and a personal assistant to Alowonle.
The commissioner alleged that the suspects were mobilised by Alowonle and Ojo, while reiterating the command’s determination to track down those still at large.
He assured the public that the investigation would continue until all those allegedly connected with the killing were brought before the law.
