NSIA urges replication of Osun food security initiative
The Managing Director of Nigerians Sovereign Investment Authority, Uche Orji, has urged the replication of the Osun Broiler Out-grower Production Scheme in other states of the federation.
He said the initiative would help to solve the challenges of food security and create jobs for youths in the country.
Orji, who spoke when he visited Tuns Farms corporate headquarters during the week, urged the farms to sustain the initiative.
Orji, who was accompanied on the visit by some members of NSIA management team, was received by the General Manager of Tuns Farms, Mr. Seyi Ogunjinmi, and the Assistant General Manager, Research and Development, Mr. Taofeek Badmus, among others.
The NSIA team was taken through a presentation on general operations of the farm as well as highlights of the OBOPS programme.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Tuns Farms Limited, Olatunde Badmus, hailed the NSIA boss for the visit and assured him of the continued sustenance of the initiative.
Badmus said the nation’s economy would fare better if local manufacturers were to have access to funding through the government’s support.
According to company sources, the farms provide farmers who participate in the scheme with broiler day-old chicks, feeds and money to buy inputs and labour for a start. The farmers are encouraged to rear the broiler birds, while a ready market is provided for them by the company all-year round. Sources close to the company revealed that the scheme had generated over 10,000 jobs yearly since inception.
