Olajengbesi Warns Ijesa North Residents Against Shrine Oaths, Donates N20m To Ipetu-Ijesa
The Accord Party candidate for Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections, Barrister Pelumi Olajengbesi, has cautioned residents of Ijesa North against collecting N20,000 from politicians to swear oaths at shrines for political purposes.
Olajengbesi gave the warning while addressing a large crowd of supporters in Ipetu-Ijesa, Osun State, at about 9 p.m., where he also donated N20 million to support community development initiatives.
In a statement issued on Sunday by Sodiq Lawal Chocomilo, spokesperson for the Pelumi Olajengbesi Campaign Organisation (POCO), the legal practitioner urged the people not to allow politicians to exploit them with financial inducements, stressing that leadership should be built on trust, integrity and genuine commitment to the welfare of the people.
He described the alleged practice of inducing residents with N20,000 to undertake oath-taking at shrines as unacceptable, urging them to resist any attempt to use traditional or religious practices to compel their political loyalty.
Olajengbesi, who is seeking election to represent Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency, assured the people that he remained committed to their welfare and the development of their communities.
He said his relationship with the people was not driven by his political ambition, noting that he had contributed to community development in the area before deciding to contest for elective office.
According to him, his support for the people was borne out of a genuine desire to improve their living conditions and promote sustainable development across the constituency.
The N20 million donation, he said, was part of his commitment to supporting development efforts in Ipetu-Ijesa and demonstrating his continued interest in the progress of the community.
The Accord Party candidate also commended the people of Ipetu-Ijesa for their support for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration and the Accord Party during the last election in Osun State.
He acknowledged the contributions of party members and supporters, noting that their commitment had remained significant despite what he described as intimidation from opposition elements.
Olajengbesi further expressed appreciation to party leaders, mobilisers, supporters and other stakeholders across Ijesa North Federal Constituency for their roles in securing his emergence as the party’s candidate.
He particularly thanked the people of Ipetu-Ijesa for their support and solidarity, assuring them that he would continue to prioritise their interests and work towards the development of the constituency.
