Saudi Airport Attack Leaves 12 Dead, 309 Injured
Twelve people have been killed and 309 others injured following an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, according to the country’s General Authority of Civil Aviation.
The Saudi Gazette, an English-language newspaper, reported on Sunday that the incident occurred on Saturday, October 10, citing the civil aviation authority.
Among the fatalities were four Saudi nationals, two Bangladeshis and one citizen each of the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Sudan.
The authority said all the injured victims had been evacuated to hospitals for treatment, noting that some were in critical condition.
It added that the attack damaged parts of the airport infrastructure, with an assessment underway to determine the full extent of the destruction.
Airport operations were temporarily suspended following the incident to allow authorities to inspect the affected facilities, assess safety conditions and protect passengers, workers and aviation infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Reuters reported that Saudi authorities and the Saudi-led coalition had accused Yemen’s Houthi group of carrying out the attack.
However, the news agency noted that the group had not claimed responsibility for the October 10 incident as of the time of the report.
The latest attack is the third reported incident targeting the airport within a week.
Earlier, the Saudi Gazette, citing the civil aviation authority, reported that three Saudi nationals were killed and several others injured in two separate attacks on the facility on Thursday.
Authorities are continuing to assess the damage and the implications of the latest incident for airport operations and security.
