The Executive Secretary of Osun Health Insurance Agency, Dr. Rasaq Akindele, has reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Ademola Adeleke led administration to enhance the people’s health through conscious and deliberate improvement of access to quality and affordable healthcare in the state.
Dr. Akindele remarked on Tuesday, during a one-day training for Primary Healthcare Workers held at Halactriah hotel, Osogbo, Osun State capital.
CityMirrorNews reports that One-day training was organized by Osun Health Insurance Agency in collaboration with the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund and Vault Consulting.
Speaking, OSHIA Executive Secretary said Governor Adeleke is committed to fully restored the state-owned primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare institutions in the state to function optimally.
He said the commitment was informed by the need to ensure that the citizenry had access to quality healthcare in their various communities in a way that nobody would have to travel outside the state for medical concerns, hence the need for training and retraining of health workers.
Dr. Akindele also added that the Osun State Governor Adeleke, is very concerned about the health of the people, which has led to renovations and provisions of health equipment to increase the quality of service delivery in various healthcare centres.
OSHIA Boss explained that the agency decided to train the primary healthcare workers in a bid to ensure more efficient service delivery.
While stating that primary healthcare is the closest to the people, Dr. Akindele said citizens must be encouraged to visit those centres instead of getting unprescribed drugs at a chemist which he said may be dangerous to their health.
According to him, the idea of the training was also to create awareness about the need for citizens to be conscious of their health.
The Osun Health Insurance Agency boss affirmed that recently the agency carried out an inspection by going around the primary healthcare centers across the state to check their operational records. However, he expressed dissatisfaction, which led to the organization of the programme to interact and retrain workers on their expectations regarding patient care.
He said: “Recently we went round the primary centres in Osun to look at their records and to inspect their operations. We found out that they actually fell below standard so we brought them together to interact with them and to retrain them of their expectations to patient and to the people who come there and especially in terms of record keeping so that one can be able to plan appropriately.
“The governor, Senator Jackson Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke is very conscious about the health of the people so apart from renovating, paying capitation, doing all sort of things, we have to still go there, monitor them and monitor these health facilities individually so that we can ensure that people who go there get what they want from these facilities
“We hope that after this training, there will be increase output in terms of patients treatment and patient satisfaction. The participants got our message. they also fed us back about the challenges which we will find a way of solving all these challenges”
Also speaking, the representative of Vault Consulting, Lanre Adeoye, said the company has packaged programs for primary healthcare workers in the local governments to build synergy between them and the world council members to work together and bring out the best in the healthcare package of the Osun State Health Insurance Agency.
