VSI Congratulates Adeleke, Urges Greater Focus On Women, Girls
Vision Spring Initiatives (VSI), a human rights organisation, has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election as Governor of Osun State, urging his administration to use the renewed mandate to deepen inclusive development and improve the well-being of women, girls and other vulnerable groups.
The organisation’s Programme Lead, Titilopemi Oriye, conveyed the message in a statement made available to journalists on Monday.
Oriye said VSI, which is committed to democratic governance, social justice and inclusive development, followed the electoral process with keen interest and consistently advocated for a peaceful, free, fair and credible election.
She described the successful conduct of the election and the reaffirmation of Adeleke’s mandate as an important milestone for democratic governance in Osun State, saying it could further strengthen public confidence in democratic institutions.
According to her, VSI has, over the past five years, invested significantly in efforts to advance the sexual and reproductive health and rights of women and girls in Osun State.
She said Adeleke’s re-election provides an opportunity for continuity and stronger collaboration between the state government, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to improve the lives of women, girls and communities across the state.
Oriye also said the governor’s re-election underscored the importance of democratic institutions and the rule of law in protecting citizens’ rights and implementing commitments at the state, national, regional and international levels.
She particularly called for sustained attention to issues affecting the health, safety, development and overall well-being of women and girls.
“Democratic governance creates opportunities for the protection of rights and the implementation of commitments made at state, national, regional, and international levels, particularly those that affect the health, safety, and development of women and girls,” she said.
VSI also congratulated the people of Osun State for their participation in the electoral process, describing their peaceful civic engagement as a demonstration of the state’s democratic culture.
The organisation expressed hope that the confidence reposed in the Adeleke administration would translate into greater dividends of democracy, inclusive development, improved public services and enhanced well-being for residents.
As the governor begins another term, VSI reaffirmed its readiness to work with his administration and other stakeholders to promote gender equality, sexual and reproductive health and rights, social justice, and the welfare of women, girls and marginalised communities.
Oriye wished Governor Adeleke and the people of Osun State continued peace, success and prosperity.
