Ondo NUJ Gets New Exco

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ondo State council has elected new executives to pilot the affairs of the union.

It would be recalled that the national secretariat of the union postponed the election twice untill it was finally conducted on Thursday under the supervision of the Vice President of the union in the South West, Mr Cosmos Oni.

At the end of the keenly contested poll, Adetona Aderoboye of the
Local Government chapel emerged the chairman of the union, having
polled 115 to defeat Tony Adetoye of the State Information chapel who
polled 17.

Also, Adeola Adekunle of Adaba FM chapel emerged the Financial
Secretary with a total vote of 116, against Oluwadare Ajibola of the
State Information chapel who had 16 votes.

Other candidates in the election were returned unopposed.

They include Hakeem Gbadamosi of Nigerian Tribune (Vice Chairman) and Leke Adegbite of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) emerged as the Secretary.

In his acceptance speech, the new chairman, Mr Aderoboye assured that he would do all necessary things to uplift the union in the state, and thereby called on all members of the union to support him.

He expressed gratitude to all members of the union for the confidence reposed in him and other members of his team, promising not to let them down.

In his remarks, the Vice President of the union, Mr Oni called on
Journalists in the state to uphold the ethics of journalism in their
day to day activities, stressing that media practitioners should do
everything to uphold the tenets of democracy.

He charged the new leaders of the union to be proactive and engage in
activities that will promote the union and journalism profession.

The positions of Assistant Secretary, Treasurer and Internal Auditor remains vacant as no one showed interest in the positions. However, the new excos have been mandated by the national body of the union to ensure that election is conducted within one month.good
