Give Us Our Mandate - Obokun APC Members Appeal to Party Leaders to Declare Falope As Assembly Candidate

– Call For Oyetola, APC Chairman’s Intervention

Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ilare-Ijesa, Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, have called on the leadership of the party to officially declare Hon. Gbenga Falope David, popularly known as Faloo, as the winner of the party’s House of Assembly primary election held on May 20, 2026.

The demand was made on Monday during a gathering of party members at the APC Secretariat in Ilare-Ijesa, where supporters expressed dissatisfaction over the failure of the party to announce a winner several weeks after the conduct of the primary election.

The aggrieved members maintained that the primary election was duly conducted and subsequently produced Falope as the winner, urging party leaders to respect the outcome of the exercise and ensure that his name is forwarded as the APC candidate for the Obokun State Constituency seat.

The party members accused a party leader of allegedly trying to manipulate the outcome of the primary election conducted for Obokun State Constituency.

They called on Minister of Marine and Blue economic, Allhaji Adegboyega Oyetola and the Osun State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Lawal Tajudeen, to urgently intervene in the crisis and ensure that the authentic results of the State House of Assembly primary election are upheld.

They however appealed to the party leadership to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations of result alteration and protect the integrity of the primary process.

They also appealed to Hon Wole Oke, a lawmaker representing Obokun/Oriade federal constituency at the National Assembly to allow the will of the people of the constituency be respected.

They explained that party leaders had maintained an arrangement over the years where political offices are shared between both constituencies to ensure balance and fairness, alleging that one of the aspirants, Oluwagbemiga David Falope, popularly known as Faloo, won the primary election convincingly.

The APC members said what they have to canvas votes in the community is the candidature of Falope , saying his candidature is generally accepted by the members of the ancient community.

Speaking on behalf of the party members, Mr. Busari Mumeen Temitope of Ward 10, Ilare-Ijesa, appealed to APC stakeholders in Osun State to intervene and uphold what he described as the collective decision of party members.

According to him, Obokun Local Government consists of ten wards, which are politically divided into two constituencies. While Wards 1 to 5 make up Constituency I, Wards 6 to 10 constitute Constituency II, where, based on an existing rotational arrangement, the House of Assembly position was expected to emerge.

He explained that three aspirants contested the APC primary election for the constituency seat, namely Hon. Akin Omidiji from Imesi-Ile, Babatunde “Solution” from Esa-Oke, and Hon. Gbenga Falope David from Ilare-Ijesa.

Temitope further explained the election was preceded by extensive consultations among party leaders, after which Falope emerged as the preferred candidate by the party leadership in the constituency and subsequently secured victory at the primary poll with 574 votes.

“We are pleading with the leadership of our great party to give us our mandate. The primary election was conducted and Hon. Gbenga Falope David emerged with the highest votes. We want the will of party members to be respected,” he said.

He further argued that Ilare-Ijesa, despite its longstanding support for the progressive political family, had not produced a major elected political office holder since 1999, apart from councillors, making the current opportunity significant for the community.

Also speaking, Mr. Ola Oke of Ward 10 expressed concern over the delay in announcing the winner, describing the situation as unsettling for party members across the constituency.

He noted that mont after the primary election, party faithful were still awaiting an official declaration, despite what he described as a clear outcome from the exercise.

“We are worried because no candidate has been announced since the primary election was held. Hon. Gbenga Falope David secured the highest number of votes, yet party members have not received any official communication regarding the result. We are appealing to the party leadership to do the right thing and give us our mandate,” he said.

Another party member, Hon. Adekunle Feyitimi, urged APC stakeholders to protect the integrity of the party’s internal democratic process by recognizing the outcome of the primary election.

He insisted that members were prepared to present evidence of the election result and called on party leaders to formally declare Falope as the winner.

“Our appeal is simple. The election was conducted and the result is known. We are calling on the party leadership to announce Hon. Gbenga Falope David as the winner and candidate of the APC for the Obokun State Constituency,” Feyitimi stated.

The gathering ended with a collective appeal to prominent APC leaders and stakeholders in Osun State to intervene in the matter and ensure that the outcome of the primary election is respected.
