Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has made a surprise appearance on the runway at the 2026 Lagos Fashion Week, modelling a design by Nigerian fashion designer, Ugo Monye.

Sanwo-Olu walked alongside professional models during the fashion showcase held on Saturday night at the Federal Palace Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The governor’s appearance attracted attention as he temporarily stepped away from his routine governance duties to support Nigeria’s growing fashion and creative industry.

Sharing a video of the event on his official X account, Sanwo-Olu said he had taken a break from the usual business of governance to walk the runway in support of Monye.

He also highlighted Lagos’ growing reputation as a centre for fashion, creativity and culture, expressing his delight at supporting individuals contributing to the development of the creative sector.

The appearance marked the governor’s second documented participation in a Lagos Fashion Week runway show. He previously walked alongside professional models in October 2023 during a fashion presentation by Nigerian designer Emmy Kasbit.

Founded in 2011 by Omoyemi Akerele, Lagos Fashion Week provides a platform for African designers to showcase their collections, promote local craftsmanship and connect with key stakeholders in the global fashion industry.

Sanwo-Olu’s participation further underscored the intersection of governance, fashion and culture, while drawing attention to the role of public figures in promoting Nigeria’s creative talents and fashion industry.
