Roll Out Palliative Plans To Cushion Subsidy Effect, CDHR Tells Adeleke

— Condemns FG N8,000 To Households

The Committee for the Defense of Human Rights (CDHR), Osun State Chapter has expressed concern over the pains being experienced by Nigerians due to fuel subsidy removal without adequate palliative measures to cushion its effects.

The Rights group specifically expressed worry over the suffering which the residents of Osun are passing through due to the increase in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

CDHR therefore called on the Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke to roll out palliative plans to cushion the effect of the removal of Subsidy on PMS as his counterpart South West governors did in their various states.

However, CDHR condemned the federal Government plan of N8,000 palliative to households across the country, describing it as a waste of resources .

The Rights organization made this known in a statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Olowu, charged Adeleke to look inward on how to invest in agriculture, and provision of grants for small-scale businesses.

According to statement, “We are aware of all forms of injustice from the government and its agencies, traditional leaders, public and private Establishment, Domestic Violence in homes, rape cases, sexual molestation, drug abuse, environmental degradation, and other forms of violation of people’s Fundamental, Economic, Religious Rights, etc.

“As an organization, we are disappointed about the announced palliative of President Bola Hammed Tinubu, which to us reflects incompetence, insincerity with the Nigeria people, and a reflection of brain drain in the Nigeria governance system

“The Bola Hammed Tinubu Government is presently set to embark on another form of Economic waste that the past administration embark on to have pronounced the distribution of Eight Thousand Naira (N8000) to Twelve Thousand Household in Nigeria is a pronouncement that Nigerians must see as an act not logical and not acceptable.

“We want to use this medium to advise that the Osun state government under the leadership of His Excellency, Sen. Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke take the step of the government of Ondo State, Ogun State, Lagos State, etc. Who has rolled out their palliative plans to cushion the effect of the remover of Subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), for the silence of the Governor is a reflection that the People of Osun State have been neglected.

“It is therefore imperative, that we use this medium to notify the Osun State Government, that the present Minimum Wages for workers and the direct Income of informal workers cannot meet the economic reality of the Nigeria market

“We advise the Osun State Government not to embark on such a ridiculous mission of Mr. President because there is nowhere in the world that the distribution of direct money into an economy can cushion the effect of economic hardship.

“The administration of Sen. Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke should therefore look into the direction of increasing workers’ salaries and provision for befitting welfare packages, provision of means of transportation, investment in agriculture, and provision of grants for small-scale businesses for this remain a palliative that will improve the life of a citizen, create jobs all and provide food for all.” the statement added.
