A video showing residents of a Hausa community in Northern Nigeria chanting the name of the Accord Party’s presidential candidate, Dr Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, during a traditional music performance has attracted attention ahead of the 2027 general election.

In the footage shared on TikTok, hundreds of residents are seen gathering around a local performer, who uses a traditional musical instrument to lead songs in support of the Accord Party candidate.

The residents repeatedly chant, “Gbenga! Gbenga! Gbenga!” while also singing “Zaɓi Accord,” a Hausa expression meaning “Vote Accord.”

The performance, which appears to be a grassroots expression of political support, offers a glimpse into how the Accord Party’s campaign message is being communicated through indigenous music and local cultural platforms beyond conventional political gatherings.

Unlike formal campaign rallies, the gathering featured a community-based performance in which the local artist used familiar musical rhythms and language to engage residents and promote the party’s message.

The development also highlights the growing place of cultural expressions and local-language communication in political mobilisation, particularly as political parties seek to extend their reach beyond major cities and established campaign structures.

For Olawepo-Hashim and the Accord Party, the footage provides an opportunity to showcase the candidate’s name and political message in a rural setting in Northern Nigeria.

As preparations for the 2027 presidential election gather momentum, the ability of political parties to connect with voters across different regions, languages and cultural backgrounds is expected to remain an important aspect of the campaign.

However, the extent to which the performance reflects wider support for the candidate among residents of the community could not be independently established.
