The umbrella body of students in Nigeria, National association not Nigerian Students (NANS), has called on the governing body of the Olusegun Agagu University of Technology, Ondo State, to desist from plans to sack First Class graduates of the institution employed as lecturers.

According to an open letter signed and released to journalists by Vice President (Ext Affairs), Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, on the directive of the body’s National President, Comrade Umar Barambu, employing First Class graduates of the school as lectures and other non-teaching capacities is a plausible policy that must be sustained.

Akinteye’s letter came at the close of a stakeholders’ meeting which had in attendance, the Governing Council chairman, Akinbo Adesomoju and the Vice Chancellor, Prof Temi Ologunorisa.

While lauding the VC for laying the foundation of peace, on which the institution could “thrive, develop and grow”, added that anyone who loves the school should follow suit and desist from orchestrating unrest among students and staff.

“The Vice Chancellor, Prof Temi Ologunorisa has done all in his capacity to put behind the institution zigzag academic calendar, putting in place swift and time-to-time payment of staffs in order to see the to the smooth running of the institution without elongation of sessions and academic calendar and as such we expect a proactive governing council to follow suit.

“Professor Ologunorisa is a man who has proven beyond reasonable doubt that his major goal and aspiration is to see OAUSTECH succeed hence we expect maximum cooperation from the governing council and not otherwise, the letter read in part.

While equally decrying what he says has now become general disappointment among those who had expected that the appointment of a former VC of the school as head of Governing Council would transform the fortunes of the school he reiterated that, the planned sack being orchestrated by the governing council under Professor Adesomoju, a former Ag. Vice Chancellor is suicidal to the growth and development of the institution.
