The Chairman of Ilesa West Local Government, Ilesa ,Osun State, Honourable Olusegun Olabode has petitioned the Commissioner of Police in the state over alleged illegal registration of underage pupils as eligible voters in the area.
The Council Boss in a petition sighted by CityMirrorNews accused a private school in area of its connivance with the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party PDP to register underage pupils in the ongoing voter registration exercise in a bid to participate in the coming elections in the state.
The petition copied the state government of Osun through the Ministry of Education, Department of Security Services (DSS) and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was forwarded to the State Police Command through Divisional Police Officer, Ayeso-Ilesa.
CityMirrorNews gathered that parents of the said private secondary school have protested against what they termed illegal registration of underage pupils of the school as eligible voters by the proprietor.
They alleged that the proprietor last Friday connived with PDP and took the pupils ranging from 13-15 years of age, gave them #200 each and registered them as voters at the INEC office located at the Secretariat of Ilesa-West local government.
According to the contents of the petition, the pupils were led to the INEC office by the school’s security guard and a teacher in dresses different from their school uniforms after being given #200 each.
The cat was let out when a vigilant agent of the commission, Mr. Opeyemi accosted the students numbering about 20 on queue which led to one of the students confessing that they were asked to perpetrate the crime by their proprietor.
The parents and the Chairman through the petition appealed to the state government to set their children free as they only sent their children to school to study and not to register as underage voters at the INEC office.
They however called on Governor Oyetola and the Commissioner of Police investigate the matter and bring the Culprits to book.
When CityMirrorNews contacted the Chairman, Hon Olabode said “Yes, I wrote the petition and I want the concerned
