Osun’s 32nd Position In BudgIT Fiscal Ranking Exposes Adeleke’s Economic Failure – DLA
The Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), Osun State Chapter, has criticised Governor Ademola Adeleke over the state’s poor performance in the 2026 State of States assessment released by BudgIT, which ranked Osun 32nd among the 35 states evaluated.
The party described the ranking as an indictment of the Adeleke administration’s economic management, accusing the government of failing to translate increased federal allocations into meaningful economic growth and sustainable development.
BudgIT, a Nigerian civic technology organisation, ranked Lagos, Enugu and Bayelsa as the three best-performing states in the assessment, while Cross River occupied the last position.
Reacting to the report in a statement, the Osun State Chairman of DLA, Dr Tosin Odeyemi, described the state’s 32nd position as shameful, saying it reflected the government’s alleged lack of a clear economic direction.
Odeyemi said, “This ranking is not surprising to us. It only confirms what we have been saying, that Governor Ademola Adeleke has no economic blueprint for Osun.”
He expressed concern that Osun, despite its economic potential, performed poorly compared with states such as Kebbi, Jigawa and Katsina, which he said had demonstrated better resource management.
“While states like Kebbi, Jigawa and Katsina are managing their resources prudently and ranking in the top 10, Osun, with all its potential, is ranked 32nd,” he stated.
The DLA chairman further questioned the state’s fiscal management, arguing that the ranking raised concerns about the government’s ability to convert public spending and federal allocations into tangible economic benefits.
“How can a state that claims to be spending billions on paper be ranked among the worst in fiscal performance? It shows the government is only good at propaganda while the state’s economy is in shambles,” Odeyemi said.
The party also expressed concern over Osun’s revenue generation capacity, alleging that the state remained heavily dependent on allocations from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) rather than developing sustainable sources of internally generated revenue.
“The table does not lie. It shows that Osun is being run on FAAC allocation alone, with no effort to grow internally generated revenue. Governor Adeleke is waiting for Abuja money to pay salaries while other governors are building real economies,” the statement added.
Consequently, the party urged the governor to redirect his administration’s attention towards economic recovery, improved revenue generation, plugging financial leakages and investing in productive sectors capable of creating jobs and expanding the state’s revenue base.
It also called on residents to demand greater accountability and transparency in the management of public resources, insisting that the BudgIT assessment should serve as a wake-up call for the Adeleke administration to address the state’s fiscal challenges.
