Osun Education Commissioner To Physically Challenged Students: Your Present Predicament Shouldn’t Be A Barrier To Your Academic Pursuit
A call has gone to physically challenged students and other persons with disabilities across the state not to let anything derail them from achieving their educational dreams, saying nothing can stop them except they stop themselves.
Commissioner for Education in Osun, Hon. Folorunsho Bamisayemi gave the charge in a chat with Master Laidi Abdulraman, a visually impaired student of Baptist High school, Iwo during his statewide monitoring of the ongoing West African School Certificate Examination.
The Commissioner who stood beside the visually impaired 18 years old Laidi while a teacher of the school was reading the English Language WAEC questions to him commended the courage and determination of the student.
Bamisayemi described the young Laidi as a shinning example to all students and individuals facing one difficulty or the other because of their physical challenges, stressing that with determination and belief all obstacles are surmountable.
The former lawmaker explained that Master Laidi Abdulrahman typifies the exact example of the kind of youth and student which the administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola wants to create, stressing that the present government wants to create a man who is not pinned down by challenges.
According to the former lawmaker, “It is exciting and encouraging for me to find a student of Osun who has surmounted his challenges to pursue his dream of getting educated, to say that I am highly impressed is an understatement.
“This is exactly what the administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola wants to achieve, to create youths who are encouraged to face their challenges, to create youths who are resilient to make it in life, to create responsible youths who are goal getters.
“I use Master Laidi Abdulrahman as a point of reference to all students and youths generally of this great state, you can achieve anything if you are determined. As you can see, Laidi is visually impaired and he is writing his Senior School Certificate Examination with the help of a teacher reading the questions to him, this is a testament to the fact that there is ability in disability”. Bamisayemi stated.
The Commissioner’s monitoring of the exams also took him to different schools around Ara, Ejigbo and Ede to ensure that the examination goes smoothly across the state as well as ensure that safety protocols rolled out by the National Center For Disease Control NCDC to prevent Covid-19 are adhered to.
