Osun Guber Poll: OPC Calls For Robust, Violence Free Campaigns
Politicians in Osun State have been called upon to embrace robust campaigns ahead of the September 22nd Gubernatorial election in the State.
A release by the Supervisory Coordinator of the Oodua Peoples Congress in Osun State, Prince Adedeji Aladesawe called on politicians across the party lines,their supporters,followers and faithful to note that at this period of nascent pollitical development in Nigeria, they cannot afford to toy with the present opportunity by embarking on adventure that may truncate the democratic experiment earned through the sweat and blood of those who sacrificed their precious life’s for what we all are presently enjoying.
While calling on political gladiators in Osun State,most especially, the candidates of all the political parties who emerged from their primaries to embark on robust campaigns and lay down their programmes and policies that would impact positively on the standard of living of residents of the state ahead of the governorship election, the statement urged the candidates and all the political parties to shun act of brigandage,hooliganism and any other act that might negatively impacted on the fast approaching election.
That statement further appealed to stakeholders in the state, most especially, agents of all the political parties to see the development of the state as a common agenda that must be collectively achieved irrespective of political lineage or differences.
According to Prince Adedeji Aladesawe ,we must join hands in ensuring that the relative peace been enjoyed in the state is sustained before, during and after the governorship election, as no meaningful development can be achieved in a state of kiosk.
The statement also called on major stakeholders in the run up to the OSUN 2018 Guber Poll,most importantly, the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC,to remain an unbiased umpire and conduct election that would be free,fair,transparent and acceptable to all and stand the test of time.
The Osun State Chapter of the Oodua Peoples Congress, under the leadership of the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland,Iba Gani Adams also beseach the security operatives such as the DSS,Police and the Military to remain neutral as they discharge their duties in the line of operations, as they are paid to defend the people of the state cum country without been seen to have taken side.
Prince Adedeji Aladesawe also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to use his good offices by ensuring that a level playing ground is provided for all the governorship candidates and as well,political parties during the campaigns, on the election day and thereafter.
The Oodua Peoples Congress,Osun State,according to the Statement issued in Osogbo,the Osun State capital will continue to pray for the peaceful conduct of the fast approaching election and therefore called on other religious bodies and organisations to do same in other to have a smooth, hitch-free election in Osun State.
