OPC: Why Olumo Was Removed As Oyo Coordinator –Adeogun

The crisis rocking the Oodua People’s Congress(OPC) in Oyo State is not yet over as state secretary of the group, Wasiu Adeogun, yesterday gave reasons for the purported expulsion of the erstwhile coordinator of OPC in the state, Rotimi Oguntade, popularly known as Olumo from the organisation.

In a statement made available to the media in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, Adeogun, stated that Olumo, was removed as the state coordinator because of his alleged involvement in what he described as organisational malpractices, including attitudes that were capable of soiling the image of the OPC in the state.

Also, Adeogun stated that the decision to remove Olumo, and his state commandant,Lateef Babalola Sunday, as Oyo State coordinator and state commandant respectively, was taken by the highest decision- making organs of the organisation, which are the National Executive Council (NEC) and the National Coordinating Council (NCC) of OPC and such decision stands.

“We cannot fold our arms and pretend not to see the various unethical conducts of the former coordinator of the OPC in the state. It is no more news that comrade Rotimi Olumo, has been removed as the Oyo state coordinator of the OPC. The decision to dismiss him was taken by the NEC/NCC, when it was evident that he had involved in organizational malpractices.

“He further dug his grave by raising his voice in the media that he was removed as coordinator of the OPC in the state without any evidence, insisting that he was still the coordinator of the OPC in the state. Such practices were unethical and it only showed that he was very desperate. How can somebody that had been dismissed from the organization over organizational malpractices still hold claim to the same position? That is the level of his desperation and the OPC as a socio- cultural organization will never allow such desperate people like that to lead the organization.

The Oyo state scribe maintained further that the OPC in the state is still intact, adding that the activities of the organization are well coordinated without any hitch: “OPC is not about an individual. It is an organization that had survived various challenges, especially during the dark years of the military. So,we have a national outlook and our activities and organizational template is well coordinated by the leadership of the organisation.”

In a swift reaction to his purported removal, Olumo stated: “I don’t have any issue with the state secretary Wasiu Adeogun. He was under me when I was the coordinator of OPC in Oyo State. He was used to issue that press release against me. If Aare (referring to Iba Gani Adams) has any issue against me, he should face me. He accused me of collecting N35million and one Land Cruiser Toyota from the President-Elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, before the presidential election in February, this year. That was the allegation that was levelled against me.

“I have never met Tinubu and I have never seen him face-to-face, except on the television, billboards and posters. For posterity, I did not collect any money from Tinubu. Wrong information was given to Aare about me. Tinubu is still alive. He and other Nigerians can confirm whether he gave me money or not”.
