Osun Assembly Passes UNIOSUN Amendment Bill, Forwards To Adeleke For Assent
The Osun State House of Assembly has passed the Osun State University Establishment Amendment Bill 2026 for third reading, paving the way for the legislation to be transmitted to Governor Ademola Adeleke for assent.
The Bill was passed on Thursday during plenary presided over by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, following the consideration and amendment of its provisions by the lawmakers.
The sitting began with the adoption of the Votes and Proceedings of the previous sitting after a motion moved by the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Adekunle Emmanuel, representing Irepodun/Ilobu State Constituency, and seconded by Hon. Olawale Oladipupo Akerele, representing Ilesa West State Constituency.
The House thereafter commenced consideration of the university amendment legislation following a motion moved by the Deputy Majority Leader and seconded by Hon. Sikiru Akinloyè Bajepade, representing Ila State Constituency.
During the Committee of the Whole, the lawmakers subjected the Bill to a clause-by-clause consideration, making necessary amendments to its provisions.
At the conclusion of the exercise, the Deputy Majority Leader moved a motion for the House to resolve out of the Committee of the Whole. The motion was seconded by Hon. Taofeek Olalekan Olayiwola, representing Ede South State Constituency.
The lawmakers subsequently amended the title of the legislation from “Osun State University Establishment Amendment Law 2026” to “Osun State University Establishment Amendment Bill 2026.”
The Bill was thereafter read for the third time and passed by the House.
The passage marks the completion of the Assembly’s consideration of the proposed amendment, with the legislation now expected to be transmitted to Governor Adeleke for assent after the necessary legislative procedures have been completed.
Meanwhile, the House adjourned plenary till Monday, September 7, 2026.
The adjournment followed a motion moved by the Deputy Majority Leader and seconded by Hon. Taofeek Olalekan Olayiwola.
