Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has disclosed that the Nigerian Air Force is providing aerial surveillance support for ongoing efforts to rescue teachers and pupils abducted from Yawota and Ahoro-Esinele communities in Oriire Local Government Area.

Makinde made the revelation during a courtesy visit by a delegation led by the representative of the Chief of the Air Staff, Sunday Aneke, alongside the Air Officer Commanding Logistics Command, Abubakar Suleh.

According to the governor, the Nigerian Air Force swiftly deployed an aerial surveillance platform immediately after news of the abduction emerged, enabling security agencies to gather vital intelligence and strengthen search-and-rescue operations.

He explained that intelligence obtained from the surveillance missions has continued to support security operatives in monitoring developments, tracking movements and coordinating strategies aimed at securing the safe release of the abducted victims.

Makinde further appealed to residents of the affected communities and the wider public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies, assuring them that every available resource was being deployed to bring the situation to a successful conclusion.

The governor commended the Chief of the Air Staff and the Nigerian Air Force for their prompt intervention, noting that the aerial support was provided at a time when Oyo State’s newly acquired aerial assets were still being assembled at the Air Force base in Lagos.

He stated that the state government procured the aircraft after consultations with the Nigerian Air Force to ensure access to maintenance services, engineering support and pilot training, adding that the partnership would strengthen the state’s security architecture.

Makinde expressed confidence that the new aerial assets would significantly improve security operations across Oyo State and neighbouring states once fully operational.

Speaking on behalf of the Chief of the Air Staff, Suleh reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to supporting the rescue mission, pledging continued collaboration with other security agencies while also commending the Oyo State Government for its support towards Air Force projects and infrastructure development in the state.
