Ignore Scaremongering, I’ll Win Convincingly, Adeleke Tells Osun Residents
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has enjoined residents and indigenes of the state to ignore rumours and scaremongering ahead of the August 15 gubernatorial election, declaring that he will win convincingly and be declared the winner with a wide margin.
The Governor made the declaration while responding to concerns about election rigging and political violence, saying all hands are on deck to ensure Osun people can vote without hindrance.
Adeleke in a statement by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed and made available to journalists in Osogbo, on Sunday, said voters’ rights must be respected and “our votes will count”, insisting that “no one” can deny the Osun people their legitimate right to elect leaders.
“Osun is the ancestral state of the president and the cradle of the Yoruba nation; no security or electoral official should attempt to disrupt the state,” he said, because the government is monitoring pre-election activities and has “machinery” in place for both election and post-election periods.
Adeleke also warned that the administration will resist any attempt to tamper with the electoral process.
On internal issues within the opposition party, Adeleke called on politicians of goodwill to join him, saying his candidature is beyond party lines.
He described his movement as a pan-Osun/rainbow coalition, urging politicians and non-political stakeholders to join Accord ahead of August 15.
He concluded that it is “better to abandon a sinking ship and join the light” represented by his candidature.
