Oyo Attacks: Empower Traditional Rulers To Fight Banditry, Oluwo Tells President Tinubu
-Says Synergy Among Security Outfits A Necessity
The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi has condemned the recent bandit attack at Ahoro-Esinele area of Oriire Local Government of Oyo State.
Oba Akanbi also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to empower traditional rulers
to prevent further encroachment of bandits into Yorubaland.
In particular, Oluwo suggested provision of security votes, security vehicles, and other logistics to enhance the coordination of local security outfits and improve security surveillance in Yorubaland. He stated that such empowerment can commence with first-class traditional rulers.
He said palaces are always the first point of contact whenever the security of the town is threatened. He asked the government to strengthen monarchs for a swift response to any security breach in their respective community.
Oba Akanbi disclosed Iwo has many paramilitary societies working with the police to prevent bandit invasion but with no government support.
Oluwo equally called on Yoruba stakeholders, Southwest Governors, to harmonize their interest by ensuring Yorubaland land is not infiltrated by bandits.
He asked the South West Governors to invite traditional rulers and summon all security forces for a collaborative dialogue and way forward to repel bandit attacks in Yorubaland.
A statement released by Oluwo and made available to newsmen through his press secretary, Alli Ibraheem, reads, ” The bandit attack in Ahoro-Esinele area of Oriire Local Government of Oyo State is condemnable. It’s a heinous act against humanity. It was a complete desecration of Yorubaland and its heritage”
“I call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to add another credit to his achievements by ensuring traditional rulers are empowered to secure their respective domain through the provision of necessary support and logistics.”
“The government, most especially our Governors, must brace up to curtail further encroachment and bandits attacks on Yorubaland. The government has to empower traditional rulers with security votes and other logistics support for traditional rulers because we are always the first point of contact. ”
“For example, in Iwo, I have paramilitary working with the police and other official security outfits to curtail crime, fight criminals and carried out both day and night surveillance but there is no support.
“An emergency meeting of Yoruba stakeholders is a necessity. Our Governors should harmonize their interest, invite and promote Synergy among security outfits to protect Yorubaland and fight common enemy. ”
“Provisions of logistics for the monarchs will hasten response from the palace, which is usually the first point of contact in distress call. Yoruba monarchs must also be vigilant”
“All monarchs must improve the surveillance in their respective palace”
