Segilola: Adeleke Has Shown To Be Different By Sarafa Ibrahim

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke is at present in a quandary over which political party platform to adopt for his re-election in 2026.

This follows the unending crisis within his People’s Democratic Party that may hamper its ability to successfully sponsor candidates for elections.

The PDP has been broken down the line, and the centre can no longer hold. One faction, led by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and his Bauchi State counterpart Bala Mohammed, organised a convention in Ibadan on 16 November, despite a court order against it, where it allegedly elected former Minister of Special Duties, Alhaji Kabiru Turaki, as the new Chairman.

It expelled Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and his associates, including former Ekiti governor Ayodele Fayose, and dissolved the party’s structures in five states.

Meanwhile, another faction led by Wike, with the party’s National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu as his ally, allegedly suspended acting Chairman Alhaji Iliya Damagun and appointed a new acting Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, in his place.

The question of who will be the competent authority to sign nomination forms of candidates running for elections under the PDP platform has therefore become an issue.

Disturbed by the development, Western Post learnt that Governor Adeleke is now exploring all options to successfully scale the nomination process without any untoward implications for his candidacy.

The newspaper learnt that the governor and his close associates are considering the Accord Party for the nomination, while some other sources claimed it could be the All Progressives Grand Alliance.

The snag in the APGA option is the fact that the party is largely associated with the South-East geopolitical zone, where it mostly holds sway.

It is unclear yet where the pendulum will swing.

Meanwhile, all attempts by Adeleke to join the APC were blocked by his opponents within the party, who feared he would automatically become the party’s leader in the state the moment he joined. His re-entry into the party he initially belonged to may also block the aspirations of others who want to wrest the governorship from him.

PDP stalwarts are waiting on the governor, particularly the larger Adeleke family, for the final decision.

Up till press time on Tuesday, the Osun governor was still in the United States of America, where he had travelled since last week.
