Police Suspend Accord, APC Political Activities In Osun LG Over Security Threat
The Osun State Police Command has directed all political parties, candidates and supporters to suspend all gatherings, rallies, processions and campaigns scheduled for Wednesday, June 10, 2026, in Oriade Local Government Area over credible security concerns.
It was gathered that both the ruling Accord Party and the opposition All Progressives Congress have scheduled for political activities on Wednesday
While the Accord Party announced the inauguration of 15,000 canvassers for Governor Ademola Adeleke, the APC said it will also be inaugurating election canvassers for Oriade Local Government.
But the statement, in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, on Tuesday, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, said the decision followed intelligence reports and a breakdown in peace talks with some parties.
“The Osun State Police Command wishes to advise all political parties, candidates, supporters, and all stakeholders that, based on credible intelligence and security concerns within Oriade Local Government Area.
“The Commissioner of Police advises all political parties to postpone their planned political gatherings, rallies, campaigns, processions, and all other politically related activities scheduled to hold on Wednesday, 10th June, 2026, within Oriade Local Government Area to a new date,” the release stated.
Ojelabi said the Command’s effort to mediate peace failed due to “non-cooperative attitude of some parties as all efforts by the Command to foster peace ended in a deadlock.
“This proactive measure is aimed at preventing any breach of peace/breakdown of law and order, maintaining public order, and protecting the lives and property of residents of the area,” he added.
He noted that the peace meeting earlier scheduled and called by the Commissioner of Police with the concerned political parties could not hold, making the advisory imperative.
“All political parties, candidates, supporters, followers and members of the public are hereby admonished to take note and comply for the best interest of peace,” Ojelabi urged.
The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to a peaceful Osun and called for public cooperation.
“The Command remains committed to ensuring a peaceful and secure environment for all residents and urges members of the public to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security agencies,” the PPRO concluded
