Governor Ademola Adeleke has condemned in the strongest possible terms the coordinated attacks on residents of Ile Ife, Ede and Osogbo by those he described as
pro-Ambo political thugs, urging the president to call the former Governor of the state and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola and the APC Gubernatorial candidate, Bola Oyebamiji to order.
Addressing an emergency press briefing at the Government House, the Governor said the dastardly acts occurred at Ile Ife after which the attackers proceeded to Akoda, Owode, Olaiya, Old Garage, Okefia and other parts of Osogbo, explaining that the attackers in a 15 vehicle convoy branded with AMBO pictures paraded the towns without any response from the police.
“As at the time of calling this press conference, several residents were feared injured and even one or two people killed. The attackers are led by thugs known as Aleba and Asiri
“Worst still, the state police command has not raised a finger to stop the attacks or arrest the attackers. These attacks are outrageous, unprovoked and a deliberate step to plunge the state into chaos.
“I condemn in the strongest possible terms the destabilising roles of Marine Minister, Gboyega Oyetola and the Osun APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji. The provocation is getting to an unbearable level. For the past few months, I have been calming my people to maintain peace despite persistent attacks.
“Just a month or so ago, a youth leader of Accord was killed at Ikire. A few days ago, the Osogbo chairman of Accord was shot at Osogbo. These attacks must stop. Our people should not be pushed to the wall.
“I call on the National Security Adviser, the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of DSS and other top security officials to shine a special light on Osun state. I appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to call Mr Oyetola and Oyebamiji to order”, the Governor noted.
The governor then checked out all the flashpoints and visited victims of the coordinated attacks that occurred in several parts of Osun State, reassuring residents of his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and properties while directing security agencies to ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.
Governor Adeleke immediately visited victims receiving treatment at the Osun State Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, where he interacted with the injured persons, their families, and medical personnel attending to them.
As part of his visit to the teaching hospital, Governor Adeleke paid a solidarity visit to the Chairman of Accord in Osogbo Local Government who was attacked last week by suspected political enemies hired assassins.
The Governor then proceeded to the Cottage Hospital, Ede, where additional victims of the attacks are currently receiving medical attention.
He expressed sympathy to the injured and assured them that the state government would not abandon them in their moment of pain.
Speaking during the visits, Governor Adeleke condemned the attacks in strong terms, describing them as unfortunate, reprehensible, and contrary to the peaceful culture for which Osun State is known.
The Governor reiterated that political differences should never degenerate into violence, intimidation, or attacks on innocent citizens, emphasizing that democracy thrives on dialogue, tolerance, and respect for the rule of law.
“I am deeply saddened by the reports and the injuries inflicted on innocent citizens. No political ambition is worth the blood or suffering of our people. Osun remains a peaceful state and we will not allow any individual or group to disrupt the peace that our people have worked hard to sustain,” the Governor stated.
Governor Adeleke directed security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the incidents and ensure that all those responsible, regardless of their status or political affiliation, are identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The Governor also assured residents that additional security measures are being activated across vulnerable locations to prevent further attacks and maintain law and order throughout the state.
The Governor expressed concern over the increasing pattern of politically motivated attacks and stressed that no member of any political party should be subjected to violence for exercising their constitutional rights.
He prayed for the speedy recovery of all victims and called on political actors across party lines to caution their supporters against actions capable of threatening public peace and democratic stability.
Governor Adeleke further appealed to residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with security agencies as investigations continue, assuring them that his administration remains firmly committed to safeguarding every citizen of Osun State.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council, had accused Governor Ademola Adeleke and supporters of the ruling party of orchestrating a series of violent attacks against opposition members and innocent citizens across the state.
In a strongly worded statement issued by the Head of Media and Publicity Committee of the Osun APC Governorship Campaign Council, Engr. Oluremi Omowaiye, the party expressed what it described as “grave concern” over the rising tide of politically motivated violence allegedly targeted at supporters of its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO).
The council alleged that criminal elements linked to the ruling party have intensified attacks, intimidation and harassment of opposition members, creating fear among residents and threatening the state’s fragile political stability.
According to the APC, campaign buses belonging to the party were attacked and vandalised on Tuesday morning in the Owode-Ede area by individuals it described as suspected PDP and Accord Party loyalists.
The party claimed that several supporters of its governorship candidate sustained serious injuries during the attack, while campaign materials and other valuables were destroyed.
Describing the incident as a direct assault on democracy, the APC said political disagreements should never degenerate into violence and called on all stakeholders to uphold democratic values.
The council further alleged that a few days before the latest attack, the business vehicle of a prominent APC campaign supporter, Alhaja Falilat Ero Erike, was allegedly disrupted by persons believed to be loyal to Governor Adeleke in the same Owode-Ede community.
According to the statement, employees of the businesswoman reportedly suffered physical assault and injuries during the incident.
The APC claimed that the victims were allegedly warned against carrying out activities in Ede because of their political affiliation and support for the opposition.
The council described such actions as dangerous and capable of undermining the constitutional rights of citizens to freely associate and support candidates of their choice.
“Why should the electoral preference of a citizen become a criminal offence?” the statement queried.
The opposition party also raised concerns over the activities of one Nurudeen Alowonle, a political figure whom it alleged was arrested with firearms and ammunition two years ago but remains at large.
The APC claimed that Alowonle was currently involved in violent confrontations linked to internal disputes among political groups, resulting in renewed unrest in parts of the state capital.
The council further alleged that buses branded with images associated with Governor Adeleke were seen transporting suspected thugs carrying dangerous weapons and allegedly firing gunshots during the disturbances.
It maintained that innocent residents had become victims of the violence, with many reportedly injured while businesses and daily activities were disrupted.
The APC said the recurring incidents had created anxiety among residents and called for immediate action by security agencies to prevent further deterioration of law and order.
While expressing sympathy to individuals affected by the violence, the party extended condolences to families who may have lost loved ones and those whose properties were damaged during the disturbances.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with every victim and family affected by these unfortunate incidents,” the statement said.
The opposition party urged the Inspector-General of Police and other security agencies to launch a thorough investigation into the incidents and bring all perpetrators to justice, regardless of their political affiliations.
Specifically, the APC demanded investigations into the alleged attack on the business of Alhaja Ero Erike, the destruction of campaign vehicles in Owode-Ede and the violence reported in parts of Osogbo.
The latest accusations add another chapter to the escalating war of words between the ruling PDP-led administration and the APC in Osun State.
