UNIOSUN: NAF Probes Attack on Students, Staff By Air-Force Men
The Nigerian Air Force has begun probe into the attack on students and staff of the Osun State University, Ipetu-Ijesa campus, last Tuesday.
CityMirrorNews learnt that the NAF’s panel set up to probe the brutalization of the UNIOSUN students and staff has summoned the power-drunk-air force men and leaders of the Ipetu-Ijesa community for interrogation.
The panel is headed by the Commander of the Nigerian Air Force Institute of Safety located in Ipetu Ijesha.
Director of Public Relations and Information of NAF, Air Commodore Olatokunbo Adesanya, said on Friday, that investigations were still ongoing, adding that he could not give a deadline to the panel’s report.
He said, “Rest assured that the panel investigation is ongoing and everything has to follow the standard procedure. As soon as any officer is found culpable in this, such will be dealt with accordingly.
“The panel does not have a deadline. This is a matter which involves civilians and the panel’s report depends on how soon the parties can give their evidences.”
It would be recalled that the air force men, from the NAF Safety Institute on Tuesday allegedly invaded the Ipetu Ijesa campus of the university, injuring students and some workers.
The air force men, whose reason for the invasion was not known, were reportedly harmed with guns, cutlasses and sticks.
They allegedly stormed the campus in patrol vehicles and Armoured Personnel Carriers, inflicting injuries on no fewer than 11 students.
The management of the state university had in a statement, on Thursday by the acting Registrar, Gafar Shittu, demanded the prosecution of the air force men for human rights violation and the invasion of the university.
The university had further asked that a public commission of inquiry be constituted to look into the matter, adding that the attacks on workers and students by the NAF personnel had become incessant.
