Court Dissolves 10-year-old Marriage Over Infidelity
A 10-year-old marriage between one Tunde Atunda and his wife, Tosin, was on Friday dissolved by a Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan over infidelity by the wife.
Mr Ademola Odunade, the President of the court, ruled that the decision to dissolve the union was in the interest of peace and tranquility.
He awarded the custody of the eight-month old child of the union to Tosin and directed Tunde to pay a monthly feeding allowance of N5, 000.
Tunde, who works with Zartech in Ibadan, alleged that his wife was sleeping around in the neighbourhood.
“I recently discovered that Tosin is no longer faithful to our union as various shapes of men sleep with her in the neighbourhood.
“She did not take into cognisance the trouble she went through when she could not conceive for 10 whole years.
“Besides, Tosin doesn’t give me rest of mind as she has constituted herself into a nuisance,” said Tunde.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Tosin, a fashion designer, consented to the petition.
She, however, denied the allegation that she was unfaithful to her husband.
“I have endured psychological, emotional and physical trauma as a result of staying faithfully in the union with Tunde only to be paid back with this evil.
