Happening Now: Supreme Court Begins Hearing on PDP Leadership Tussle
By Olabode Abolaji
Nigeria’s apex court of jurisdiction, the Supreme Court is today hearing the appeal filed by the Sen. Ahmed Markarfi faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against the Port Harcourt Appeal Court’s ruling making Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff the authentic National Chairman of the party.
The Appeal Court had ruled in favour of Sen. Sheriff after the leadership crisis rocking the party led to the two factions struggling for the seat.
The erstwhile largest party in Africa has been in this crisis since the unexpected resignation of Alhaji Adamu Mua’zu in May 2015 after the party lost the March 28 Presidential elections to the ruling All Progressives Congress APC
