Dr. Martin Chukwunwike, former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State, has been elected chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Chukwunwike, alongside 27 other members, forms the new State Executive Council of the APC, elected during the party’s state congress held on Tuesday at Michael Okpara Square. The elections were conducted peacefully through a voice vote.
In his acceptance speech, Chukwunwike commended Governor Peter Mbah for supporting the party throughout the congress process. He expressed loyalty to the governor and pledged that the new leadership would strengthen the party’s position in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
“The team will work to ensure that 2027 is successful, and that voter support in Enugu State remains strong,” Chukwunwike said.
Outgoing caretaker chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye, noted that the state congress completed the journey that began with ward congresses and highlighted the importance of unity within the party. “Today we are handing over a united APC. Splinter groups were all brought together. Unity was chosen over personal ambition, made possible by Governor Peter Mbah’s guidance,” he said.
Nwoye also reported that the party’s e-registration exercise in the state achieved significant success.
