Drama As Accord Supporters Stage Walkout At INEC Stakeholders’ Meeting In Osun
There was a brief disruption on Wednesday at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Stakeholders’ Meeting in Osogbo as supporters of the Accord Party staged a walkout following a confrontation with supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The incident occurred during the interactive session when the member representing Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo and Egbedore Federal Constituency, Bamidele Sala, was recognised to make his contribution.
As he addressed the gathering, some APC supporters interrupted him with chants in Yoruba, repeatedly saying, “Ẹ ṣe, ẹ ṣe o, ẹ wá má lọ,” loosely translated as, “Thank you, thank you, you may now leave.”
The chanting momentarily disrupted the proceedings and heightened tension inside the venue as representatives of political parties, civil society organisations, security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders and other election stakeholders watched as the incident unfolded.
The stakeholders’ meeting, convened by INEC ahead of the August 15, 2026, Osun State Governorship Election, was chaired by Professor Joash Amupitan.
Although the disruption was short-lived, some Accord Party supporters protested the interruption by walking out of the meeting. Order was subsequently restored, allowing the programme to continue.
While makeing his contribution Salam alleged that the APC was apprehensive about the conduct of a free, fair and credible governorship election in Osun State.
He raised concerns over reports that some registered voters had confirmed their names on the electoral register but were yet to receive their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). He urged INEC to urgently address the issue to ensure that no eligible voter is disenfranchised during the August 15 governorship election.
