Osun Government Seals Hospital Over Alleged Illegal Medical Waste Disposal
The Osun State Government has sealed EloCare Specialist Hospital in Osogbo over alleged illegal disposal of medical waste at Igbona Junction in Olorunda Local Government Area.
The Osun Waste Management Agency (OWMA) said the alleged act violated the state’s environmental laws and public health regulations governing the handling and disposal of medical waste.
According to the agency, its enforcement officers traced waste dumped indiscriminately on the road median at Igbona Junction to the hospital.
Following the discovery, the officers reportedly visited the facility to assess its compliance with government directives on proper waste management and disposal.
OWMA alleged that the hospital management had repeatedly ignored government directives on appropriate waste disposal and was operating in violation of the state’s waste management policy.
The agency subsequently sealed the hospital as part of enforcement measures to ensure compliance with environmental and public health regulations.
The government reiterated the need for healthcare facilities to handle and dispose of medical waste responsibly to protect public health and the environment.
