Oyo Amotekun Trains 300 Personnel On Conflict Management

Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Amotekun in Oyo state has commenced training for about 300 personnels on conflict management to enhance its operations .

The three-day workshop on Conflict Analysis and Community Engagement for Amotekun Corps Operatives was held at the Amotekun’s headquarters Moniya, Ibadan.

In an interview with journalists shortly after declaring the workshop open, the Onpetu of Ijeru, Oba Sunday Oyediran stressed the need to equip and upgrade the knowledge of operatives to plan ahead in tackling criminality in the society as crime was no longer static.

He commended Governor Seyi Makinde for involvement of representatives of traditional rulers in the board of Amotekun to bring their knowledge to bear in course of fight insecurity.

Oba Oyediran challenged the participants at the workshop to utilize the knowledge garnered during the training effectively in the task of securing the state.

Two of the resource persons, Acting Director TETFUND Centre of Excellence, Dr Benjamin Aluko and Dr Babajide Ololajulo from the department of Archeology and Anthropology, University of Ibadan urged security operatives to always consider factors such as belief, culture and perspective in resolving conflict .

They called for patience of security personnel to make an accepted interventions while dealing with security situation to prevent escalating the scenario.

Some of the participants described the training as worthwhile

Earlier, the state Commandant of Amotekun, Colonel Olayinka Olayanju Rtd said the need to update the knowledge of Amotekun operatives in the state became imperative to deal with emerging security dynamics.

Colonel Olayanju Rtd added that the corp would also train its drivers within the next two weeks to perform optimally.
