Prevention Of Post Harvest Losses Can Boost Farmers Income, ARMTI Executive Director, Dr Femi Oladunni Charges Farmers

The Executive Director of Agricultural and Rural Management Training Institute (ARMTI), Ilorin, Dr Femi Oladunni gave this charge to participants during the recently concluded training programme titled Reduction of Post-harvest losses for Food Security in the North East Geo-political zone of Nigeria”.

The 5-Day capacity building organized by Agricultural and Rural Management Training Institute (ARMTI) in collaboration with OMAKONSULTS Nigeria Limited was held ARMTI Regional Office, Abuja, between 7th and 11th June, 2021, had forty (40) Agricultural Practitioners invited across the six states in the North East Geo-Political Zone of Nigeria in attendance.

Dr. Oladunni at the opening ceremony reiterated that farmers in Nigeria were supposed to be among the richest professional if not for the losses they suffer as a result of poor post harvest management of their produce.

He said that the training would expose the participants from North East Geo Political Zone to new realities and ways to better manage their agricultural products.

Topic discussed extensively at the seminar include Overview of post harvest handling of agricultural commodities; Post Harvest Management and COVID-19; Fundamentals of crop storage; Store and Warehouse management; Post Harvest Management of Grains; Management of livestock and herds; Pest Management of stored products and other practical sessions, including group discussions.

Speaking earlier during the opening ceremony, Pastor Olusegun Ogunleye, the Managing Director of OMAKONSULTS Nigeria Limited, the consultancy outfit handling the training welcomed the participants and admonished them to acquire helpful knowledge and skills from expert resource persons specially prepared for the capacity building.

According to him, he said the participants should take away as many lessons as possible from the training, so as to better their positions as farmers.

Participants expressed their delights at being selected to participate in the highly beneficial training. They promised to step down the information and knowledge garnered from the training to other recipients when they return to their respective states in order to give room for multiplier effect and allow other farmers to also benefit.
