New Aree: Council Of Elders, IPA Fault Process, Charge Osun Govt To Follow Due Process
Iree Council of Elders in collaboration with Iree Progressive Association (IPA) has urged the state government of Osun to follow due process in the selection of new monarch in the town.
The Council on Monday faulted the process of using Warrant Chiefs by the local government in Boripe North Local Development Area of Osun State to fill the vacant stool of Aree of Iree land.
At a press conference held in Iree and addressed by chairman, Iree Council of Elders, Engr.Adenrele Afolabi in the company of Aree in Council, described the step as anti Yoruba culture and traditions.
He argued that, the selection of a king is only the responsibility of the kingmakers and not the civil servants or government officials.
Elder Afolabi however charged the appropriate authorities to right all wrongs and charged the state government under the administration of governor Gboyega Oyetola to follow due process in the selection of new monarch in the town.
The Chairman of Elders in Council stated that, if due process is followed, there would be peace and harmony in the community and every inhabitants would live peacefully without acrimony or rancour.
” I want to appeal to indigenes of the ancient town at home and in the diaspora, especially youths to maintain the peace and tranquillity which Iree is known for under the prevailing circumstances.”
He hinted that,every measure is being adopted by elders of the community to douse tension and prevent the breakdown of law and order that could lead to violence.
The Council further described as unacceptable the system of jettisoning all the authentic six king makers to appoint a monarch affirming that, it ran foul of the existing culture and tradition of the town.
One of the kingmakers, Chief Saliu Atoyebi said against the norm, kingmakers were not allowed to be part of the selection of one Prince Raphael Ademola who was purportedly picked by the Warrant Chiefs.
