The fallout of the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State seems to be eaten deep into the fabric of the party and adversely reducing the chances of the APC to win the November 26, 2016 gubernatorial election in the state.
CityMirrorNews observed the crisis rocking the APC became well pronounced on Thursday as President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo refused to attend the flag-off campaign of Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, the flag bearer of the APC in Ondo State.
Besides, National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu and former National Chairman of the Party, Chief Bisi Akande shunned the campaign, just as none of the APC Governors in the South-West except Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State, attended the campaign rally.
CityMirrorNews also observed that Tinubu’s name and picture were conspicuously missing in the brochure of the programme held at the Democracy Park, Akure.
Present at the rally were the Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Lasun Yusuf, Sokoto, Bauchi and Jigawa States Governors, Hon Aminu Tambuwal, Alhaji Abubakar Mohammed and Alhaji Badaru Abubakar respectively.
Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, Minister of Communications, Alhaji Adebayo Shittu and the Labour and Productivity Minister, Senator Chris Ngige, as well as a former governor of Osun State, Senator Isiaka Adeleke and former Speaker of Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon Victor Olabimtan, were also in attendance.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Engr Babachir David Lawal and the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Oyegun who graced the occasion drummed support for Akeredolu who they both described as the best for the position of Ondo State Governor.
Oyegun who presented the APC’s flag to Akeredolu urged the people of the state to support the change agenda of the President Buhari’s administration, stressing that the state would develop more if Akeredolu is voted the next Governor.
In his address, Akeredolu promised that his government would in no distant time clear all the outstanding arrears of salaries which the incumbent administration of Governor Olusegun Mimiko owed the workers
Akeredolu also, he assured the teeming unemployed youths in the state of employment within the first one year of his administration, just as he promised rapid transformation of all the 18 Local Government Areas in the state.
The governorship hopeful also promised to ensure prompt payment of salary of workers, even as he assured workers of adequate promotion.
