Do A Thorough Investigation Of Ondo Toxic Incidents, Company Tells Police
By Niyi Olutunde, Akure
Management of Ondo/Linyi Industrial Hub, has called for proper investigation of the cause of the death of three persons allegedly said to have died of toxic waste in the Omotosho forest reserve in Ondo State.
Recall that at the weekend the victims reported having died of toxic waste include Akinmusire Monday (35), Samuel Louis (45), and Ododolewa Adebowale (19), all residents in Akinfosile in Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state.
But while speaking with journalists in Akure on Monday, Chairman of the industrial hub, Alex Ajipe said it’s imperative for the Police to do a thorough investigation in the death of the three persons.
Ajipe noted that Police should be allowed to carry out appropriate investigation including autopsy tests of the persons reportedly said to have died as a result of toxic wastes in the forest.
“Whilst we appreciate the Nigerian police for their prompt action, we urge them to do a thorough investigation of the incident and come out with the facts,” he said.
Ajipe posited that all industries within the industrial hub were complying with all the rules and regulations on the environment as provided for by the nation’s constitution.
According to him, “All agencies in charge of environmental control in Nigeria have their presence in the hub and all companies within the hub have no choice than to comply with all the rules and regulations as laid down by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“I am stating here categorically that none of the companies here can dare to do what runs contrary to the dictates of our laws in this country.
“Their operation is in tandem with international standards. We (management) personally invited all industrial unions to organize their various members in companies within the industrial hub.”
