Osun Re-Run Election: Police Read Riot Act To Residents
The Nigerian Police has warned residents and people of Osun, who do not have any business or would not be voting at the affected polling units for the re-run governorship election, to stay clear of such polling units.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr Joshak Habila, gave the warning during a press conference with newsmen at the Osun Police Command on Wednesday in Osogbo.
According to Habila, the police had gotten intelligent reports that some individuals plan to distrupt the re-run election, which would be taking place in seven polling units within four local government areas of the state on Thursday.
He said the police would not allow breakdown of law and order, adding that the police and other security agencies were on red alert and that any attempt to disrupt the election process would be countered.
“We have intelligent reports that some individuals want to make this re-run election bloody by unleashing thugs to cause mayhem.
“Those preparing to disrupt the election process, preparing for fire-for-fire must be ready to face the consequences of their action.
“Only eligible voters with voting cards would be allowed to come close to the voting units, others should keep off.
“Residents are requested to be law abiding and go about their lawful businesses as the police have deployed officers and men to provide security during the election.
“The police and other security agencies will ensure the security of lives and property, and we employ residents to report any suspicious activities, especially as related to buying of PVCs and other election malpractices.” he said
