The Osun State Police Command has arrested a man, identified as Taye Kasali, over the alleged murder of his mother, Mrs Kudirat Kasali, whose remains were recovered from a shallow grave on the family farm.
The suspect was arrested on September 7 following an investigation into the disappearance of the woman and her son, which was reported at the Bode-Osi Police Division on September 1.
The command, in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said intelligence-led investigation led to the arrest of Taye in connection with the suspected killing.
According to the police, the suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation to killing his mother on August 31, 2026, before burying her body in a shallow grave within the family farm.
The police said the suspect allegedly told investigators that his mother had been referring to him as a mad person and had threatened to lease out the family farmland, which he described as the major source of livelihood for the family.
The command said further investigation led operatives to the location identified by the suspect, where the remains of the deceased were recovered.
A machete allegedly used in the commission of the crime was also recovered at the scene as an exhibit, according to the police.
The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, CP Ibrahim Zungura, directed that the suspect be subjected to thorough investigation and charged to court upon completion of the process.
Zungura assured members of the public that justice would be served in accordance with the law.
The command also urged members of the public to promptly report cases of missing persons and suspicious activities to the police or other relevant security agencies.
It appealed to residents to provide useful information that could assist security agencies in preventing and investigating crimes.
