Viral Video: Osun Police Say ‘Officers Fleeing From Drone’ Scene Was Movie Clip

The Osun State Police Command has dismissed as false a viral video suggesting that its officers were seen fleeing from a drone, saying the footage was actually extracted from a Yoruba movie.

The video, which circulated widely on social media and was also aired by Arise News TV, was presented with a caption suggesting that police officers in the state ran away from a drone.

But the command, in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the footage had nothing to do with an actual police operation.

According to the command, the video was taken from the Yoruba movie, Omije Fun Omije Part 2, which was filmed in May 2026.

The police explained that a patrol vehicle was used during the movie production and that an actor dressed in police uniform was momentarily left outside the moving vehicle in one of the scenes.

The actor was said to have run after the vehicle and eventually boarded it.

The command said a passer-by who was not part of the movie production recorded the scene and later circulated it online, falsely captioning it as police officers running away from a drone.

“The drone visible in the clip was the drone used to film/record the movie. It was not an operational pursuit of police officers,” the command stated.

The police described the narrative as misleading and damaging to the reputation of the Nigeria Police Force, insisting that there was no incident involving serving officers fleeing from a drone.

It also faulted the publication and circulation of the footage without verification, stressing that media organisations had a responsibility to authenticate videos before presenting them as evidence of an actual incident.

The command consequently called on Arise News and other platforms circulating the footage to retract the caption and narrative, publish a correction explaining that the clip originated from a movie production, and desist from using staged or unrelated footage to portray police officers as cowardly or unprofessional.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to lawful and professional policing in Osun State, saying it remained open to factual reporting.

It, however, warned that it would not tolerate what it described as deliberate distortion of images, videos or reports aimed at tarnishing the reputation of the police command.
