Osun East Youths Demand Sen Fadahunsi Probe, Justice For Election Violence Victims

…Insist No Political Difference Is Worth A Human Life

A coalition of youths, students and concerned citizens from Osun East Senatorial District has called for the investigation of Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi over alleged inciting statements linked to political violence during the 2026 Osun State governorship election.

The group also demanded justice for victims of pre-election violence in the state, an impartial investigation into reported cases of killings, threats and intimidation, as well as stronger efforts by security agencies to recover illegal firearms from political thugs and criminal elements.

The coalition made the demands on Wednesday in a statement titled, “Enough Is Enough: Osun East Deserves Justice, Peace, Accountability and Better Representation,” issued on behalf of the Coalition of Youth and Students and Concerned Citizens of Osun East Senatorial District.

The group said its action was not motivated by hatred or vendetta against Fadahunsi or any political party, but by concerns over political violence, security, accountability and the quality of representation in the senatorial district.

The statement was signed by Olakolupo Oluwasegun, Chairman, and Alalade Felix, Secretary of the coalition.

It expressed particular concern over statements allegedly attributed to Fadahunsi during the election campaign, including claims that persons associated with the opposition or wearing yellow caps should be killed.

While stressing that the allegation must be properly investigated and established by the appropriate authorities, particularly the police, the coalition described the reported statement as “extremely serious and unacceptable” in a democratic society.

The group said, “No election is worth a human life. No political ambition should be placed above the safety of citizens.”

It therefore called for a “transparent, impartial and credible investigation” into all credible allegations of incitement, threats, killings and political violence connected with the electoral process.

The coalition also demanded justice for victims of pre-election violence and their families, insisting that every life lost deserved justice irrespective of political affiliation.

On representation, the group said Fadahunsi, as the senator representing Osun East in the National Assembly, must be held accountable by his constituents.

It argued that effective representation should go beyond occupying a seat in the Senate to include meaningful engagement with constituents, effective advocacy, community development, education, economic opportunities and youth empowerment.

The coalition also demanded sustainable youth employment and empowerment programmes, greater transparency on constituency projects and interventions, and increased participation of young people in governance.

Among its demands, the group called for Fadahunsi to be “arrested, investigated and, where evidence establishes a criminal offence, prosecuted.”

It, however, stressed that all allegations should be investigated fairly and that the law should take its course only where wrongdoing is established.

The group further urged the police and other security agencies to investigate all credible allegations of killings, threats, intimidation and electoral violence without political interference.

It also called for intelligence-led operations to identify and recover illegal firearms allegedly in the possession of political thugs and criminal elements threatening communities across the district.

The coalition urged security agencies to remain professional and impartial, stressing that every citizen deserved equal protection regardless of political affiliation.

Addressing Fadahunsi, the group said: “Our message is simple: listen to the people, engage the people and respect the people.”

It added that public office came with responsibility and accountability, saying allegations against public officials should be investigated fairly and that established wrongdoing should be dealt with according to law.

The coalition appealed to residents of Atakumosa West, Atakumosa East, Oriade, Obokun, Ilesa East, Ilesa West, Ife Central, Ife East, Ife North and Ife South to resist attempts to use them for political violence.

It said, “Our political choices may differ, but our lives and future are shared.”

The group urged participants in its civic action to remain peaceful and law-abiding, stressing that its objective was to demand justice, accountability, peace and better representation rather than to cause confrontation.

It concluded with a call for an end to political violence in the district, declaring: “Political power must serve the people. Public office must come with accountability. No political difference is worth a human life.”
