The wave of resignations rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State intensified on Thursday as a former Commissioner for Political Affairs and Intergovernmental Relations under former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, Hon. Taiwo Akeju, announced his resignation from the party.

In a resignation letter dated June 4, 2026, and addressed to the APC Chairman of Ward 01, Iwara, Atakunmosa East Local Government Area, Akeju said his decision followed a careful review of his political journey.

The letter read: “I hereby resign my membership of the All Progressives Congress. Please note that this resignation takes immediate effect. This decision is personal and taken after a careful review of my political journey.”

Akeju, a former Youth Leader of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the old Oyo State, is a founding member of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) and one of the pro-democracy activists arrested, detained and tried for treason and treasonable felony by the military regime of the late General Sani Abacha in 1994 alongside President Bola Tinubu, the late Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti and Comrade Ola Oni.

His political résumé also includes serving as Special Assistant to the Presidency on Culture and Civil Matters, Director of the Osun State Property Development Corporation, Commissioner at the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation (OSBC), and Special Assistant to former Senate Leader, Prof. Wande Abimbola.

Akeju’s exit comes barely days after three former members of the Osun State House of Assembly and APC chieftains — Lekan Oyediran, Aleem Bakare and Folorunso Oladoyin — dumped the party.

Between June 1 and June 2, the former lawmakers Oyediran, Bakare and Oladoyin had tendered separate resignation letters to their respective local government party chairmen.
