Osun Assembly Denies Rumoured Defection Of 18 Lawmakers From Accord Party

The Osun State House of Assembly has dismissed reports claiming that 18 lawmakers are planning to dump Accord Party, describing the claim as inaccurate and riddled with misinformation.

The report had claimed that the lawmakers were considering leaving due to internal instability, particularly uncertainty over the party’s leadership, which is currently the subject of litigation.

The report alleged that the crisis had created confusion within the party, with concerns over the lack of clear direction and its impact on members’ political future.

However, in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Olamide Tiamiyu, the Assembly insisted that no lawmaker was planning to exit the party.

The Assembly also rejected claims of an internal crisis, noting that recent developments, including the publication of candidates for the forthcoming governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), have addressed such concerns.

The statement also denied claims that lawmakers representing several constituencies, including Olorunda, Ifelodun, Ifedayo, Ila, Ife South, Ife East, Aiyedire, Olaoluwa, Ayedaade, Ilesa East, Osogbo, Ede South, Orolu/Irepodun, Ife Central and Egbedore, were planning to leave the platform.

It further refuted allegations that lawmakers were reconsidering their positions due to dissatisfaction with the party’s structure.

The Assembly reaffirmed that its members remain united under the leadership of the Speaker, Adewale Egbedun, and urged the public to disregard the report.
