Financial Accountability: Oyetola’s Legacy VS Adeleke’s Challenge By Rotimi Makinde

As Osun State navigates its development path, it’s crucial to examine the financial records of its leaders. Governors Adeleke (PDP) and Oyetola (APC) represent two distinct approaches to governance. Let’s examine their financial stewardship.
Gov Oyetola’s administration received a total of N295.4bn in federal allocations from 2018-2021, with annual allocations as follows: N71.4bn (2018), N74.5bn (2019), N68.2bn (2020), and N81.3bn (2021). In contrast, Gov Adeleke’s 2022 allocation was N76.8bn, with financial reports pending.
Despite COVID-19 challenges, Oyetola’s team maintained fiscal discipline, leaving a substantial balance in state coffers. His administration demonstrated prudent financial management, focusing on infrastructure development and social services. Gov Oyetola’s disciplined approach ensured substantial savings, reduced debt burden, and improved infrastructure.
As Hon Rotimi Makinde says, “Accountability is the bedrock of good governance.” We urge Gov Adeleke’s administration to publish detailed financial records, including federal allocations, loans, and expenditures, to demonstrate transparency and accountability. Gov Oyetola’s track record is open for scrutiny, and it’s time Gov Adeleke followed suit.
