Fayose Publishes Documents To Back Claim Of N50bn FG Fund Received By Makinde
Former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, has published documents to support his claim that the Oyo State Government under Governor Seyi Makinde received N50 billion from the federal government as intervention funds following the January 2024 explosion in Ibadan.
Fayose released the documents on Sunday, saying they served as evidence to back an earlier assertion he made during a national television interview.
He recalled that Governor Makinde had publicly challenged him to provide proof that such funds were received by the Oyo State Government.
According to Fayose, while the federal government allegedly released N50 billion as intervention support, only N4.5 billion was paid to victims of the Ibadan explosion. He claimed that the remaining funds were diverted to other purposes.
The former governor accused Makinde of channelling the alleged funds towards personal political ambitions, a development he said had contributed to internal crises within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the governor’s criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration.
Fayose said he made the documents public in the interest of transparency, insisting that Nigerians deserved full disclosure. He added that once private meetings with the president were referenced publicly, it became necessary to reveal all relevant details.
He challenged Governor Makinde to seek legal redress over the allegations, maintaining that he stood by his claims. Fayose further alleged that Oyo State had received other intervention funds from the federal government which were not disclosed to the public, and said he possessed documents on the state’s actual Internally Generated Revenue, which he claimed differed from figures publicly stated by the governor.
“My name is still Ayo Fayose. I don’t say what I can’t prove,” he said.
As of the time of filing this report, Governor Makinde had not issued an official response to the allegations.
