Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to exploring more opportunities in the aviation sector as part of efforts to drive infrastructure development and economic growth across the state.

Makinde stated this on Wednesday while hosting members of the Women in Aviation International (Nigeria Chapter), who are in Ibadan for their annual conference themed “Connect, Engage, Inspire,” holding from November 4 to 7, 2025, at the Western Hall, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

Represented by his deputy, Barr. Bayo Lawal, the governor commended women for their contributions to the aviation industry, describing them as key players in transforming the sector and breaking gender barriers.

He noted that Ibadan was home to the first aerodrome in the country and said the ongoing upgrade of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport to international status is part of his administration’s plan to make Oyo State a hub for local and global air travel.

“Our goal is to make Oyo State a hub for both local and international flights,” Makinde said. “Once the Samuel Ladoke Akintola International Airport is completed, aircraft will be able to take off from Ibadan to any part of the world.”

Makinde assured the group of his government’s full support for their initiatives, including mentorship and professional development programmes for young women interested in aviation.

Earlier, Dr. Rejoice Ndudinachi, President of Women in Aviation Nigeria, commended the governor for hosting the event and for his sustained investment in aviation infrastructure. She said the conference aims to promote collaboration, mentorship, and empowerment for women and girls in aviation and related STEM fields.

Among those present were the Commissioners for Lands and Urban Development, Mr. Williams Akin-Funmilayo; Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Hon. Adeniyi Adebisi; Works and Transport, Hon. Mojeed Mogbonjubola; and Information and Civic Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade.
