Osun NDP Rules Out Governorship Race, Endorses Senatorial Aspirants Ahead of Election

The National Democratic Party, NDP, in Osun State has disclosed that it will not field a governorship candidate in the August 15, 2026 election, saying it is considering supporting a candidate whose agenda aligns with the interests of residents.

Leaders of the party made this known during the conduct of the party’s primary election held in Osogbo on Saturday, May 30, 2026.

Speaking with journalists, the party chairman who is also the candidate for West Senatorial District, Hon. Adegboyega Ezekiel Ayoola, said the NDP participated in the primary election to produce candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives and the Osun State House of Assembly.

He explained that the party decided not to present a governorship candidate because it is still growing its structure as a new political platform.

According to him, the party would support any governorship candidate considered capable of delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of the state.

“We are going to work peacefully for any candidate that we are pleased to work with. We are a peaceful party and we want peaceful elections in Osun State,” he said.

Ayoola disclosed that candidates for the senatorial districts emerged through consensus during the primary election.

Other candidates are; Hon. Tajudeen Alagbon Olayinka as the party’s senatorial candidate for Osun Central, while Hon. Amoo Fasilat emerged for Osun East Senatorial District.

He added that the party also produced candidates for the House of Representatives across the federal constituencies in the state.

Ayoola urged politicians and residents to avoid violence and foul language during the electioneering period, stressing that peace remains important for the development of the state.

He also said the party was focused on youth empowerment and job creation, especially for unemployed graduates across the state.

Also speaking, the Osun State Treasurer of the party, Olayinka Moses Alagbon, described the NDP as a party with fresh ideas and a commitment to transparent democratic governance.

He appealed to residents to join and support the party, noting that its symbol, the lantern, represents light and hope.

The Osun State Secretary of the party, Pastor Adenuga Barnabas Akinlolu, expressed confidence in the candidates produced during the primary election, describing them as credible and reliable.
