Delayed Start, Low Turnout Mar Voting In Ikorodu Despite Early Arrival Of Materials
Voting activities in the Power Line area of Ward A, Ikorodu, Lagos State, were yet to begin as of 9:23 a.m. on election day, despite the early arrival of electoral materials and officials.
Ad-hoc staff from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were on ground at polling units 020 to 023, but accreditation and voting had not commenced. According to officials at the scene, the delay was caused by the unavailability of chairs, which they claimed were to be provided by party agents before the voting process could begin.
Ballot papers seen at the polling units featured the logos of four political parties: the All Progressives Congress (APC), the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party (LP), and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Meanwhile, in the Aga area, near Ikorodu Club junction, voting commenced promptly at 9:00 a.m. The atmosphere at the polling unit was peaceful, although voter turnout was noticeably low.
A chieftain of the APC and chairmanship aspirant for Ikorodu Local Government, Akinyemi Ali, who cast his vote at the Aga unit, described the exercise as orderly and calm.
