Akiriboto Stool: Babalakin Ruling House Seeks Adeleke’s Intervention, Vows To Resist Imposition

The Babalakin ruling house in Akiriboto town, Ayedaade Local Government Area of Osun State have called on Governor Ademola Adeleke of the state to urgently intervene into the selection process to fill the vacant stool of the town, Akiriboto-Oke.

The ruling house said that the process must continue without any further delay.

It was gathered that the state government through the Ayedaade local Government had fixed Tuesday 23rd of April,2024 for the screening of the candidates who had shown interest in becoming the new traditional ruler of the town.

However, few hours to the commencement of the screening exercise, a signal came barring the continuation of the process.

Reacting to the development, Babalakin ruling house in a statement signed by Prince Adebayo Oyewo, the head of the ruling house and the regent, Princess Omolara Oyinade Oyewo, expressed discontentment over the development.

According to the duo, “the already initiated process should not be thwarted, while alleging Vice Chancellor of a University, being the brain behind the move to compromise the process.

“The Vice-Chancellor said he would use his office to jeopardize the selection process. He also claimed to be a stakeholder in the town where his foot print and impact cannot be felt in all ramifications. Meanwhile, some times ago, he had claimed to be an indigene of Orile Owu in Ayedaade local Government.

“The Vice-Chancellor, involvement at imposing a candidate on the community as Oba is a reflection of his character as a University don of his calibre.

“His lineage has never been tagged with any chieftaincy tittle, whether honourary or statutory based on their origin (Orile-Owu).

“Furthermore, his clamouring for the choice of his candidate has reduced the quality of time needed for
his official assignment as the number one citizen of a prestigious University, should be checkmated by the concern authority.

“We want the selection process that has been ongoing to continue and be guided by due process.

“The office of the governor should allow the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to continue their statutory duties in consonance with the rule of law.

“The stool of Akiriboto-Oke is a recognized chieftaincy which is being vacant as we speak. Due process is being followed before the Vice-Chancellor came with an idea of imposing a candidate on the throne which is against the Section 25 Cap law of Osun state Chief law.

“Akiriboto-Oke town is known for adequate peace and tranquility and we are completely a law abiding citizens who honour due process and constitution” the statement concluded.
